All About the Best Gaming Desktops

Are you wondering what the biggest differences between gaming desktops and regular PCs could be?

We’ll be going over that and much more… but to give a short answer right away, gaming desktops need better hardware than regular computers do.

Why? Well, if you’re a gamer, you already know the answer to that! If you’re not, it’s because you need great graphics, lots of memory and storage, and a lot of power.

Gaming desktops that are built so that you may upgrade components in the future are ideal but not every pre-built tower has that option.

Therefore, we would like to point out the fact that there are great companies around that custom-build gaming desktops to specifically suit your needs.

Those options can be even pricier than the ones we found in online stores but if gaming is your livelihood and your heart is set on specific hardware, you might want to look into that!

That isn’t always the case, though. Sometimes you can get a custom-built PC for a fair price! You just have to know exactly what you want and where to look for those things.

The market is always changing, too, and parts and pieces can be difficult to come by. If you choose to take the custom route, please do plenty of research.

These pre-built gaming desktops are great starter kits for anyone that doesn’t need top-of-the-line equipment because their profession depends on it.

Now, let’s get into the basics before we concern ourselves with buying anything.

How well do you know your equipment?

Many factors influence the design and overall performance of the best pre-built gaming desktops.

Some of the most important things to look into include storage, memory, performance/power, framerates/resolutions, size, appearance, and price.

We’ll briefly discuss the importance of those but if you’re curious about all the technical details, there’s plenty of awesome reading material on each individual subject all throughout the Internet.

Another important thing to pay attention to is whether or not an operating system is included on the desktop! Especially if you take the custom route! Without an operating system, you can’t do much on your computer (unless you’re trained in that field, of course).

  • What size gaming desktop do you need?
    • Are you using multiple screens and accessories or do you just need the basic setup?
    • Some models can be bulky, some are designed to be space-savers, and some are meant to be focal features as much as they’re meant to be used as equipment.
    • If you’re working with limited space, measure the area in question and try to find (or build) models within that range.
  • What does your budget look like?
    • A good gaming desktop can easily cost anywhere from $500 to $2,000 or more depending on your needs.
    • Considering your needs and expectations is essential if you don’t want to end up spending more on extra features that increase aesthetic value more than performance.
    • Don’t forget that many of the models on our list do not include monitors.
  • What kind of games are you planning on playing?
    • Believe it or not, this really matters! Certain games require a significant amount of storage space compared to others.
    • How many screens do you use? More screens call for more power and speed in terms of graphics, resolution, and such.
  • How much storage space will you need and what kind of device would you prefer?
    • You can choose between SSDs and HDDs or even select a combination of the two.
    • SSDs are solid-state storage devices and they directly impact performance in most cases. The most affordable sizes for these range from ~120GB to 256GB.
    • HDDs are hard disk drives. You’ll find these ranging from ~500GB to 2TB or more.
    • The serious gamer would benefit from implementing both to ensure plenty of storage space and quality performance output.
  • Do you want the option to upgrade your power supply in the future?
    • If so, you’ll need to do a bit more research as many pre-built models aren’t easy to upgrade.
    • That’s not to say none are out there, though! We came across a few ourselves but we’re not big into fixing things up ourselves… we just like to use them as they are!
  • How important is memory capacity to you?
    • Do you want or need a lot of RAM and high-speed performance?
    • This is essential for running background programs and things that don’t have to be active constantly.
    • 8GB to 32GB of RAM is an ideal range for most gamers. 16GB is best for streamers and 32GB will help your desktop prepare for future workloads. 8GB is fine for the casual player but you typically won’t want to go any lower in size!
    • This is also important to consider with a graphics card.

Figure out which features, components, and hardware matter to you!

When it comes to figuring out what kind of processor, graphics card, and features you should get, certain brands are definitely a cut above the rest.

That being said, everyone has their own taste. What’s great to one person might seem subpar to another, it’s really all in the eye of the beholder!

That wraps up the basics for now and we’re ready to go into our list of the best gaming desktops available right now!

Our Favorite Gaming Desktops

To be perfectly honest, just about anything iBUYPOWER puts out deserves to be at the top of our list. We just wanted to give several companies a chance!

The iBUYPOWER Slate 9200 was by far the most impressive gaming desktop we came across in our search. The main reason we love it is due to its affordability when you think about all the features it has! Its design is fabulous and it has so much storage space. Not only that but it has a great graphics card and processor.

Another notable company is CYBERPOWERPC. They’ve put out some pretty impressive desktops that professional gamers across the world have used for years! If we had to guess, we’d say iBUYPOWER and CYBERPOWERPC are pretty strong competitors and we can see why! They’re both offering strong machines with amounts of storage space that are a steal for the total price.

SkyTech also has a lot of wonderful options! They’re totally affordable and packed with features that would impress the most demanding of gamers.

We’d like to add that there are a couple of Dell and HP gaming desktops that are worth mentioning if you’re looking for an extremely casual setup. We wanted to focus on models that were suitable for streamers and professionals.

We hope you’ve found what you’re looking for! Happy shopping!

We will be happy to hear your thoughts
